An impressive piece of history…

This impressive piece of history – a 1942 Douglas DC-3 ‘Basler’ aircraft – gradually gathered speed on its slightly downhill ice runway before lifting off for the five-hour flight to McMurdo over just a fraction of the vast white dome of Antarctica.
