Daniel will spend four months in the United States from March – July 2018, based at California State University (Chico, California) and the Forest History Society archives (Durham, North Carolina). His trip will include presenting a poster at the American Society for Environmental History conference, visiting archives including the Baker Library of the California Historical Society, Bancroft Library of UC Berkeley and California State archives, presenting a seminar at CSU Chico’s anthropology forum, and discussing his work with leading figures in the field including Dr Don Hankins (CSU Chico) and Prof Stephen Pyne (Arizona State University).

“Working with Dr Hankins in particular is exciting as he stands at the forefront of the exciting new discipline of ‘pyrogeography’, and has done comparative work between Aboriginal Australian and Native American fire management, ” said Daniel.
